Alice Egoyan

"Dreams are the source of our past, present, and future. For me, art is a way to express my dreams and visions. My work is a combination of intuition and analysis, qualities which follow from my desire to investigate and my natural empathy. Since I started, drawing and painting has been my way to express different aspects of my personal mythology, and the way in which my life experiences have provided something with which I can connect to both myself and others. With art, rebirth is always achievable. Art is a continuing force that neither life nor death can touch, a visual impression of the progress of our existence.

My paintings are visions of both people or scenes I have encountered and fantastic illuminations of those imagined. They are sensual explorations of color and texture, as well as deeply emotional voyages into the subconscious to reveal the many sources of profound human experience."

About 'Sibyls and Sirens':

"The 'Sibyls and Sirens' collection is an exploration of female energy, between the opposing poles of prophetess and harlot. The women portrayed here are mystics, angels, seductresses, and seers-magical and surreal with a postmodern edge. In their fragile states they reveal power and desire, but also illumination and purity. The males portrayed in 'Endymion' and 'Fate' are carriers of this energy, symbiotic partners in the divine relationship of man and woman. These pieces are not so much about physical eroticism as they are about the mythical energies which are manifest through people, and how these energies fuel experiences beyond the ordinary. Currently, I have put aside my digital paintbrushes for the real thing, turned to studies of the male form, and am working on a series of paintings entitled 'Buried Gods'."
